Dr Kariappa’s particular areas of interest include:
Cancer Surgery
Laparoscopic (keyhole) colon and rectal cancer resection
Management of recurrent rectal and colonic cancer
Inflammatory bowel disease, including laparoscopic IPAA
Management of complex fistulae
Haemorrhoids
Laparoscopic repair of incisional, para-stomal and inguinal hernias
Diverticular disease
Dr Kariappa completed 6 years of General Surgical training prior to Super-Specialisation into Colorectal Surgery. Major laparoscopic surgery such as gallbladder surgery (cholecystectomy) and hernia repairs remain a substantial part of his workload.
All emergency surgery including appendicectomies, perforated peptic ulcers and abdominal trauma are covered both through Sutherland and Kareena Hospital.
