Training
Dr Kariappa completed 6 years of General Surgical training prior to a further 2 years of Super-Specialisation into Colorectal Surgery. These 2 years of post-Fellowship training allowed the acquisition and honing of skills specific to colorectal surgery; including advanced colonoscopic techniques, laparoscopic colon and rectal surgery and management of inflammatory bowel disease. More recently Dr Kariappa has completed training in robotic surgery and now includes this as part of his practice for complex colorectal cases.
Major laparoscopic surgery such as gallbladder surgery (cholecystectomy) and hernia repairs remain a substantial part of his workload.
Dr Kariappa is a conjoint lecturer for the School of Medicine at the University of New South Wales.
